The most consistent piece of advice we heard when we told people we wanted to go to Niagara Falls was that we had to go to the Canadian side~that the view is much better. Wanting to get the very most out of our experience, we followed that advice.
The trip from our house to the Falls was approximately 4 hours, but the anticipation of where we were going was enough to keep me & Mykah pretty entertained. Max is happy in the car with a movie, regardless of where we are going. Although it had to be tough on Joe, we made this a one-day trip. Of course, he never complained and we have this incredible memory to add to our ever increasing list of adventures. When we arrived there, we found a place to park and headed to the bridge to Canada. While it was a healthy hike, we were too stunned by the breath-taking view unfolding with every step that we took that we payed no attention to our feet. We didn't feel we needed to go out on the platform extending out over the water since we were walking around to the other side for the best view. We also didn't do a "Maid of the Mist" tour~we were fairly certain that Max wouldn't think much of the constant drizzle over us, and didn't want to risk the tantrum that could ensue because of it. We have no doubt that our day couldn't have been any better having participated in those activities!
What incredible beauty...again, we are blessed to add this to our adventures!
The 1st weekend at our new home in Dryden, NY was spent with my parents, who came to help us get settled. My mom just doesn't sleep well if she doesn't know where her children lay their heads. Since I am the first to move a significant distance from the rest of my family, I appreciated that they were willing to extend one of Mom's business trips to come see our new digs. We also REALLY appreciated all the ugly wallpaper that they helped us strip from EVERY SINGLE wall in the new house. If they sleep better having helped us out, the least we could do for them is let 'em, right?!
Since Joe has lived here without us for 3 months, he has been able to do some sightseeing with Bruce. Ithaca is famous for it's gorges~and there are few words to describe the stunning beauty that awaited us as we went to 2 of Ithaca's state parks. The more impressive of the 2 was Robert H. Treman State Park, which has 2 levels and a great hike between them. These pix are from Treman. It's such a different kind of beauty than that which we grew accustomed to in the mountains of Idaho and Utah, and it took our breath away! The sagebrush and pine trees don't quite hit the vibrant shades of green that exist in abundance here in Central NY.
If the beauty that we saw here is any indication of the rest of our new surroundings, we are truly blessed to be able to experience it firsthand.
